Who We Are

Ionian Sailing Guide is an independent editorial resource for sailors exploring the Greek Ionian Islands. We provide practical, honest information about sailing this beautiful area — from choosing the right yacht to finding the best anchorages.

Our Mission

To help sailors of all experience levels plan and enjoy safe, memorable sailing holidays in the Ionian Sea. Whether you’re a first-time charterer or an experienced skipper, we aim to answer the questions you’re asking.

What Makes Us Different

Independent editorial voice: We’re not a charter company. We don’t sell yachts or holidays. This gives us editorial freedom to provide honest, unbiased advice.

Insider knowledge: Our content comes from sailors who know these waters intimately — people who’ve spent seasons sailing the Ionian, not just a week here and there.

Practical focus: We skip the tourist-brochure fluff and focus on information you actually need: weather patterns, anchorage depths, provisioning tips, realistic costs.

Regular updates: The Ionian sailing scene changes — new marinas open, charter companies come and go, regulations shift. We keep our guides current.

Content Philosophy

We prioritize:

  • Accuracy over marketing
  • Practical details over pretty photos
  • Honest assessments over hype
  • Clarity over complexity

We avoid:

  • Exaggerated claims (“hidden paradise”, “best anchorage in Greece”)
  • Generic advice you could find anywhere
  • Outdated information
  • Sponsored content disguised as editorial

Partnership & Transparency

This guide is produced in partnership with IYC Ionian Yacht Charter, Lefkada’s longest-running family charter company (established 1979). This partnership allows us to:

  • Access insider knowledge from professional skippers
  • Keep the guide free for readers
  • Maintain editorial independence

How this works: IYC supports this guide financially, which keeps it free for you to use. In return, we include charter information and links to IYC’s fleet where relevant.

Editorial independence: IYC does not control or approve our editorial content. We write what we believe is accurate and useful, period. When we recommend an anchorage, route, or piece of advice, it’s because we believe it’s the right information — not because anyone told us to write it.

About IYC

IYC Ionian Yacht Charter has been operating from Lefkada since 1979. Key facts:

  • Family-run company (second generation)
  • Fleet of 18 yachts (17 monohulls + 1 catamaran)
  • Sizes: 30-51ft
  • Based at D-Marin Lefkas
  • Member of DSV (Deutscher Segler-Verband) — the only charter base in Lefkada with this accreditation
  • Personalized service (not a large anonymous charter company)

When we mention IYC in our guides, it’s because they’re the partner enabling this resource. But our recommendations — which routes to sail, which anchorages to visit, how to plan your trip — are editorially independent.

Contact

General questions: Use the contact form on this site Charter-specific questions: Contact IYC directly via their website

We read every message but can’t guarantee individual replies to general sailing questions (we’d never have time to update the guides!). For personalized advice, consider working with a charter company or booking a skippered charter where you can ask questions while sailing.

Corrections & Suggestions

If you spot an error or have a suggestion for improving our guides:

  • Email us with the specific page URL and the issue

What we can’t do:

  • Provide real-time weather forecasts
  • Recommend specific charter companies (other than our partner IYC)
  • Settle disputes with charter companies
  • Provide personalized route planning (work with a charter company for this)
